Sean Davis is back in favour at Portsmouth but admits he does not know how long he will be at the club.
His return to the first-team fold comes as something of a surprise given that he failed to even make the squad for the club's FA Cup final success in May.
That appeared to suggest the former Tottenham man would be shown the door this summer, with Celtic believed to be among his admirers.
Despite still being at Fratton Park with the transfer window now closed for business, Davis concedes his future could still lie elsewhere.
"I must admit, I didn't think I'd find myself in the team as soon as I did," Davis told The News.
"I thought I was going to move on, but nothing happened and I'm happy to still be at Portsmouth.
"I love it down here. I love the training, the fans and the players are all quality. I am just happy to get my chance and prove myself again.
"I'm just trying to work hard and get a lot of games under my belt. We will see what happens in January.
"I only have a year left on my contract so I have to start thinking about what I am going to do in the future."
Pompey play host to Middlesbrough on Saturday with Davis keen to help ensure the club build on a promising 3-0 win at Everton last time out.
He added: "There is still a lot of optimism about what we can go on and achieve this season.
"It wasn't the easiest of starts but to go away to Everton and win 3-0 was a great result.
"We can build on that and the team has a lot of confidence. We want to progress this year.
"We haven't got the biggest of squads to play in all the competitions, but the quality is there to progress in all four.
"This year we want to finish in that top six and I think there is no reason why we can't win the FA Cup again."
